About the tattoo studios with online booking

A tattoo studio almost always works from a design of its own. So the first step is not the needle but a conversation. At the consultation you tell the artist what you want, where and how big, you look at references together and they tell you how many sessions it will take and what it will cost. It is free, takes 15 to 30 minutes and is the only appointment you can book online. The tattoo sessions are set by the studio with you afterwards, once the design is clear.

To choose a studio, look at each artist's style, whether realism, fine line, traditional, blackwork, lettering or watercolour. Each has their own hand and portfolio, and the sensible thing is to find someone who already does well what you have in mind. Check too whether they work only from their own designs or accept the one you bring, and how long the waiting list is, as artists with a name can be booked up for months.

As for timing, a small tattoo fits in a one-hour session. A medium piece on a forearm or calf takes two to three hours. A full sleeve or a back is spread over several half-day sessions weeks apart so the skin can rest. A touch-up, if needed, is done once the tattoo has healed, usually after four to six weeks.

On the day of your session, eat beforehand, drink plenty of water and wear clothes that leave the area easy to reach. Do not go if you drank alcohol the night before. If you cannot make it, give notice, as a half-day session is half a day's work for the artist.

Frequently asked questions

What happens at a tattoo consultation?

You talk to the artist about your idea, the part of the body and the size, look at references together and they tell you how many sessions it will need and a price. It is free and without obligation, and if you like what you hear, the studio sets the date of the first session with you.

Can I book a tattoo session directly online?

No. Only the consultation is booked online. The studio schedules the sessions after seeing you, because the length depends on the design, the area and your skin. That way nobody books two hours for a piece that needs four.

How many hours does a tattoo session last?

Usually one or two hours for small and medium pieces and half-day sessions of about four hours for large ones. Few artists go beyond five hours in a row, as the skin swells and the line loses precision.

How do I choose a tattoo artist by style?

Look at each artist's portfolio, whether realism, fine line, traditional, blackwork or lettering. Find the one who already does the style you want well and book the consultation with that person.

When is a tattoo touched up?

Once it has fully healed, usually four to six weeks after the session. Many studios include the touch-up in the price if it is done within that time. Ask at the consultation.

Can I bring my own design?

Almost every studio accepts one and adapts it to your skin and the area. Bring the image to the consultation, on your phone or printed, and the artist will tell you what works and what should change.
